The 8 hertz frequency of the Earth (more precisely, 7.83 Hz) was discovered by Winfried Otto Schumann and is also referred to as the Schumann resonance. It refers to the phenomenon that electromagnetic waves of certain frequencies form standing waves along the circumference of the Earth.
It is a natural, low-frequency, electromagnetic field. It forms because the Earth is a spherical waveguide: the ionosphere and the Earth's surface are both conductive surfaces between which standing waves can form. The fundamental frequency (7.83 Hz) results from the propagation speed of electromagnetic fields (= speed of light) and the circumference of the Earth.
8 hertz frequency and brain activity
This particular frequency refers to the electromagnetic resonance between the Earth's surface and the ionosphere, generated by the constant electrical discharges of lightning in the atmosphere.
It turns out that the 8 hertz frequency very likely has a special relationship with biological organisms (including humans). It is believed that this frequency is in resonance with the electrical activities in our brain. Similar to a soft background sound, this frequency could affect our inner balance and well-being.
